| Gabranth, above all, is the commander of the 9th Bureau of the Archadian Imperial Army, primarily concerned with the gathering and dissemination of information. Originally Noah fon Rosenburg, twin brother of Captain Basch fon Rosenburg of Dalmasca, he abandoned his birth name and instead took on his mother’s surname as his own after her death and the fall of his homeland, Landis. Immediately following her death and being abandoned by his brother, he traveled to Archadia - his mother’s birthplace - to begin a new life. He was hand-picked by the Emperor Gramis of Archadia to become a Judge Magister soon after his arrival in the capital. He eventually lost all loyalty to Landis, and garnered a deep hatred for Basch. After becoming a full-fledged Judge, he began acting as an informant on the dealings of Lord Vayne Solidor, Gramis’ successor, and was tasked with the protection of Lord Larsa Solidor, Vayne’s younger brother. Gabranth helped Vayne’s rise to power by assassinating the king of Dalmasca and placing the blame on one of Dalmasca’s most important captains – Basch fon Rosenburg. Also under Vayne’s orders, he later murdered Judge Drace to prove his loyalty to the Lord as Archadia’s “hound”. Despite the respect he has gathered, he loathes himself for the acts he has committed for the country that destroyed his own homeland. As the beginning of the war between Archadia and Rozzaria approaches, Gabranth ends up facing his own brother in battle. After being bested by his twin several times, Gabranth comes to learn how his brother has kept his honor – while Gabranth believes he lost his own long ago – despite his life being ruined. Seeing his brother’s honorable vows, Gabranth attempts to redeem himself by agreeing to protect Larsa and help the Resistance in the coming battle against Vayne. Unfortunately, he never makes it to the battleground. |
